[CASE STUDY] Ad Agency Cuts Mockup Time from Hours to Seconds with AI

An advertising agency was spending hours producing mockups just to show a client what their product might look like on a billboard or in a magazine. We built a tool that does it in seconds, entirely in the browser.

The Problem

Our client, a small advertising agency, faced a problem every agency knows: clients need to see their product in context before they can commit to a creative direction, but producing professional mockups- a product on a real billboard, a subway car, a luxury magazine page, a stadium screen- takes time and money to commission before a single budget has been approved.

Testing multiple concepts meant multiple rounds of mockup production, which made fast creative iteration effectively impossible. The agency needed a way to show clients exactly what their product would look like in real advertising contexts, quickly enough to do it live in a pitch meeting if needed.

What We Built

We built a browser-native generative AI mockup studio that takes a single product photo and places it photorealistically into real-world advertising contexts, with no design skills or production time required.

The agency uploads a client’s product photo, picks from ten built-in ad placements (urban billboard, subway car, luxury magazine, city bus wrap, coffee shop table, airport digital screen, building mural, bus stop shelter, mall escalator, and stadium jumbotron), and the tool instantly generates a photorealistic composite using a multimodal AI image model.

A separate AI call generates a matching tagline from the product image, which can be rendered directly into the mockup. If a specific format isn’t in the built-in set, the agency can define their own placements using a custom prompt, which is saved locally in the browser, so the tool adapts to each client’s needs.

After a mockup is generated, a chat panel lets the agency refine it in plain language, “make it night-time,” “move the product left,” and download the final result as a high-quality image ready to drop into a presentation. The entire system runs in the browser with no backend, no servers to manage, and nothing to install.

The Result

  • Client-ready ad mockups generated from a single product photo in seconds, not hours
  • Ten built-in ad formats plus unlimited custom placements defined by the agency
  • AI-generated taglines rendered directly into the creative, ready for client review
  • Conversational refinement in plain language, no designer needed for iterations
  • Zero backend, static deployment, nothing to host or maintain beyond the files themselves

The Honest Bit

The image generation itself was the straightforward part. The genuinely hard part was the conversational refinement loop. When a client says “make it night-time” or “move the product to the left,” the system has to apply only that change without drifting everything else in the image.

Getting that loop to feel predictable and reliable, rather than unpredictable and frustrating in a live pitch setting, took real prompt engineering work. An agency using this in front of a client can’t afford a tool that behaves inconsistently, so that reliability bar was higher than it might look from the outside.
