[CASE STUDY] AI SaaS Platform for Personalized Children’s Stories

Most AI story generators take a one-line prompt and produce generic fiction. We built a SaaS product that does something harder: stories built around a real child’s real challenge, designed to actually change how they feel about it.

The Problem

Telling a child “just be brave” or “go say hi” doesn’t work, because instructions explain what to do without letting the child feel what it’s actually like to do it. We set out to build a SaaS platform that closes that gap using the oldest teaching tool there is: stories, personalized to the child’s exact situation, not generic fiction with a name swapped in.

What We Built

We built a full multi-tenant SaaS platform with secure authentication, subscription billing, and strict data isolation between families at the database level, so every family’s data stays separate by design, not just by convention. Parents build a profile for their child capturing personality, behavior, interests, and real-life challenges, and the AI generates a consistent illustrated avatar that appears in every story the child is ever told.

The real engineering challenge was the story generation itself. A generic prompt produces a pleasant but forgettable story. We built a structured five-stage story framework that mirrors the child’s exact emotional state, shows a believable setback, has the child take one small specific action, delivers an imperfect but real improvement, and ends in the child’s own voice reflecting the change, every time a story is generated. Stories can also run as a sequence over several nights, building toward something like an upcoming birthday party or a tough first day at school, not just entertaining once.

On top of the story engine, we layered voice narration, including voice cloning, so a parent or grandparent can record their voice once and have every future story narrated in that familiar voice, even from across the world. Every photo uploaded for the AI avatar is deleted immediately after processing, with the system built to be COPPA compliant from the ground up.

The Result

  • A working multi-tenant SaaS product with tiered subscription billing and database-level data isolation between every family
  • A structured, repeatable story framework that consistently produces emotionally specific stories, not generic AI fiction
  • A consistent AI-generated avatar that follows each child across every story they’re told
  • Voice cloning that lets a real family member’s voice narrate stories indefinitely, even from far away
  • A privacy-first architecture with photos deleted immediately after processing, and no child data ever used for ads or AI training

The Honest Bit

The architecture, authentication, billing, and voice cloning were all real engineering work, but they weren’t the hardest part. The genuinely hard problem was the story framework itself. A child’s story has to account for who the child actually is, their personality, their specific challenge, and the real setback they’d face, all while building toward a believable, imperfect improvement, not a sudden perfect fix, and it has to stay consistent across a whole sequence if the goal is to help a child rehearse through something over several nights.

Getting that framework right took real iteration. Early attempts either stayed too generic and lost emotional specificity, or crammed in every detail and came out incoherent. Landing on a structured, repeatable approach that consistently produced stories that felt genuinely specific to one real child, not generic content with a name inserted, is where most of our effort went, and it’s the part of the system we’re proudest of.
